Lost Childhood

One of the shortlised photograph in lonely planet travel photo contest 2010 (http://www.lonelyplanet.com/win/gallery.cfm?affil=lpemail#Chandipur%20situated%20in%20Orissa%20is%20one%20of%20the%20most%20unique%20beaches%20in%20India.%20Sea%20water%20comes%20once%20a%20day)

is also one of my favourite photographs. The photograph was taken in 2007 on a family tour in an amazine beach of Chandipur Orissa. The photograph was published in people & Planet annual diary and finalist in photographer's forum photo contest 2011.

I personally like the contrast of life in this photograph. The fisherman in front struggles with his tough life and the children in a planyful mood in background completely ignorant of the harsh life.

Publication in Popular Photography, NY

This is one of recent Publication in Popular Photography magazine, one of the prestigious photography magazine of NY. In the month of April,2009 Mr. Miriam Leuchter,Managing Editor
mailed me and offered me a scope of publication in October,2009 issue. I was enthralled and honoured.
This photograph is one of my favourite ones and widely acclaimed all over the world (Category winner in IndiaShot, 2009,India,Category Inspiration winner in Prestigio Photo Contest,2009, Gold medal Winner in Live Section of VIPC,2009,POTM in Fotoflock in November 2010,Finalist in people & Planet-Australia in 2010,) and the photograph was exhibited in USA,Italy,Spain.
There is a story behind this shot.It was monsoon in India. That day I anticipated somehow that I might get some wonderful sky. I left my office at about 05:30 pm, called one of my office mate to carry me on his motorcycle at the place (This place I discovered few months ago before taking the shot). It is about 15 min ride and waited for another 15 min to get the best view of the place. I already observed the cyclist before he crosses the place, I knelt down to capture the full view of the cyclist. When he came at the right place I clicked almost 6-8 frames in continuous mode and among those shots I like this most.

First Publication

It was monsoon time and I was enjoying occasion in our home at Rahara (20 Km away from Kolkata, the capital city of West Bengal,India) with my parents and wife. One day early in the morning I found some fishermen engaged in fishing activity in a pond adjacent to our home. I tried to have some shots from 1st floor of our home but could not manage to get a good one. The sun was rising at that time and I found the interesting ripples with a golden impression on the water. I took the shot, print it, send it to Times Journal of Photography magazine on Aug 2002 and they published it in the very next month.

I was thrilled and The published shot along with my name by the side of the photograph created an eternal joy. Afterwords lot of photographs published in national and international magazines but nothing gives so pleasure.

The Journey Begins

I can remember my college life, my father gave Yashika MF-2 super. I always like to travel anywhere and everywhere. I enjoyed riding bicycle and go different places nearer to my college. Joyanta, Asis & me completed our first ever trekking to Sandakhphu, the hightest point of West Bengal,India in 1997. I completed the 5 day tour with my Yashika camera and and two rolls of film. At that time I never think photography may be a big passion for me. In the year 2001, I purchase my first manual SLR camera Cosina C1S with a 35-70 Cosina lens and a cheap 70-210 Viviter lens cosing Rs 12,000/- ($250) by taking a loan from a office with the inspiration of my wife and started shooting.

I can still remember that day when my photograph was published in Times Journal of Photography in Sept 2002. Next month one of my photographs was selected by Better photography and one in a Bengali travel magazine.

In the year 2003 I shifted to Nikon F80 and a 28-70 f/2.8 Sigma lens. It costs almost Rs. 35000/- ($700). Again taking a loan from Provident fund and keep going. I concentrate in photography more and more and enjoyed my new challenge.................

The photograph above during a tour with my wife in a remote hill station named Rishop, the situation was created for about 15 mins and I took some shots, out of which this came the best.

Later on the year 2006 Penguin selected this photographer as a book covers followed by another two in the same year.

BORN FREE

After completing my Bachelor of Engineering I started my Engineering career from 1997. I joined WBPDCL, a PSU in 1998 and got married in the year 2000. It was my wife who discovered my talent in photography. She inspired me to purchase a camera in the year 2001 and since then I have been addicted with it. In 2006 I shifted into Digital photography and left the films completely. The digital world in combination with the internet facility completely changed my photographic career.
From the year 2007 I participated in various national and international competitions and bagged more than thirty awards and my photographs exhibited all over the world.
